目前，有自己网页索引数据库的英文搜索引擎,一共只有上边9个。其它的如Yahoo，AOL，LYCOS，MSN，Looksmart等虽然名为搜索引擎，都没有自己的网页索引数据库，其实都是用的以上搜索引擎的网页索引数据库。另外，门户网站的搜索引擎多半默认为分类目录搜索，累赘又多，无法提供专业搜索引擎一样的丰富功能和统一丰富的搜索语法，所以在搜索的速度、相关性、数量、易用性上往往与专业搜索引擎差距甚远，缺乏使用价值，就不一一介绍了。但以下三个搜索引擎，虽然也没有自己的网页索引数据库，却都有其特色和使用价值，值得搜索引擎9238一提：
Askjeeveswww.ask.com 有超过700万的大型问题库，支持自然语言提问搜索，适合搜索常识性的问题答案。
Vivisimowww.vivisimo.com元搜索引擎，有目前最好的搜索结果自动分类技术。下拉菜单还支持各新闻、购物、独立搜索引擎等的自动分类搜索。
Faganfindwww.faganfind.com我们经常会遇到普通网页搜索以外的各种特殊搜索需求。Faganfind象一个书签，它为几十种特殊搜索需求都挑选了多个优秀搜索工具，你可以点击子分类进入挑选使用，也可以很方便的直接用它默认的搜索工具（通常它默认推荐的都很好）。
